router issue causes hanging browser - could it be a Windows 7 update?
Does anyone know if a recent Windows 7 update might have contained a glitch that is causing my router to misfunction?
This is a D-Link DI-624M wired router for just new PCs (a few months old, both with Windows 7, 64-bit) and almost from the start I have constant IP configuration problems (at least that's what the Local Area Connection Status box diagnostics keeps saying) resulting in constantly hanging browser. I've had the router for a few years, with older PCs, with never a problem.
The connection does work, and the browsers on both computers work too, but the connection is rarely made on the first try, and most of the time I can't get to a site without more than one try, and not always then. Frequently it takes multiple tries, or I have to shut down the browser and reopen it, more than once. Email seems to run with no problem - possibly a little slower than it should be, but it does work. (Any idea what that might indicate - the fact that email runs better than internet?)
I've ruled out the browser, modem, cables and infection. I've reinstalled the router and am about to just buy a new one, knowing nothing else to do. But could there be a conflict caused by a Windows update?
Short of restoring to an earlier version of my O.S., is there some setting I should check or change? Or just get a new router and hope for the best?
Thanks all.
