Problems with NTLMv2 Authentication

Hey there guys,

I work where they use NTLMv2 on the network and it seems that only a few of my applications know how to deal with it (Mainly MS programs and firefox). What is odd, is that when I run HotSpot Shield, it connects flawlessly and redirects all my traffic through there without any disturbances. I wouldn't like to use that program because it's ridiculously slow, and I was trying to figure out if there is a way to fix the programs that don't handle the NTLMv2 correctly...

Thanks!

You can't update the older programs which aren't made to use NTLMv2 authentication, so you would need to do these adjustments on the Windows 7 machines.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

The screen shots below should be helpful.

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

Thanks!

I believe our domain controller has it set at a different value. Is it possible to by pass this?

Those adjustments are for the Windows 7 machines to allow it to work with older servers and programs that were made before this level of authentication was developed.
