Windows 7: Networking with 3 computers-I want to use MY computer to run maintain

Hi

I have 2 laptops in the house hold that are connected Wirelessly to the internet.

My computer, the king, is a desktop. This has a wired internet connection.

To save me the task of manually going to the laptop in the other room to download a file to it or perform a system scan, couldn't i do it remotely from my computer? Like take control of the laptop and what is on the laptop's monitor is on my monitor and have full control of it?



I believe its called remote assistance? Or is there better software out there?

Teamviewer is what i would recommend - it's free for personal use.

I would suggest you run the teamviewer host on the systems you wish to control (you can run the full version if you ever want to access the desktop from a laptop Even remotely over the internet), ande set it to start with windows. there is a full manual available on the site

So the free version allows me to control the laptop? but the laptop cant control the desktop?

If you load the full version on the three computers, and set them up for unattended access you can then access and control any two systems from the third. this is possible even if the computers are separated over the net, even internationally. All functionality is available for free if you are using it for personal use.

I suggested the use of the host file as this allows the master to connect and control the host systems but not the other way round which may be important if others have access to the laptops and you do not wish them to access the desktop
