Unable To Connect To Internet Via Wireless

Ok I hope someone can help me... i'm so lost right now. I have a gateway laptop that was running pretty slow from having so many different things on it. I did a clean install and upgraded to Windows 7. IT'S GREAT. My only issue is i can pull up ALL the same wireless hotspots around me from before but it won't connect to any of them. I've always used wireless to connect from where i am. i don't have my own router. the main connection i use is free wifi from my apartment complex's rent office. i have 2 laptops and i'm connected to the wireless right now.

NOW... i've tried searching for driver upgrades and have been unsuccessful...
but i can't connect that laptop to the internet to do it from there.

i've tried disabling and enabling both lan and wireless devices with no luck.

i don't know what else to do...

My wireless network adapter is 'Realtek 8185 Extensible 802.11b/g'

So it finds networks with no issue but wont connect to them? Do you get any errors when it fails?

No error message... just the basic "not able to connect" i'll admit the signals are kind of low and that happens at times when the signal is low but my other laptop connects to these same networks just fine and also that same laptop connected without any issues before this starting happened...

I just tried that Realtek driver but my system is telling me that it is up to date with that driver already. So I still have the same issue.
