    How to Create Domain on Windows 7?


    Hi, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate edition.

    I want to create a domain on it. Please help me to how to create a domain on windows7.

    I have a single machine and want to create and join domain on itself only. There is some application which requires to join a domain. Please help.

    You can't. Creation of a domain requires a server.

    Thanks for your reply MacGyvr, Is there any other solution to this. Do I have to install another OS to create a domain i.e. Windows Server 2008 or any other.

    Yes you would need to create a server on another machine in order to join it's Domain. Windows Vail or server 08 would work to create a domain.

    Thanks for your reply.... I want to create a Domain on my windows7 Machine...

    but the link shows the steps to join the Domain... not to create it...

    As was mentioned twice earlier you can't create a Domain unless you have server software installed on your machine. You can only join a Domain with Windows 7 which is why I posted that reference. :)

    Ya... I Got it... So is there any such server software available for windows7 ? Can IIS7 do the helpful job for this ??

    You can get Windows Vail server 30 day trial, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...rver/eval.mspx

    You also need at least a 160GB harddrive and a 64 bit capible CPU for Vail to work.

    No IIS is a webserver application

    If I were you I'd obtain a copy of CentOS (RHEL) or OpenSuse and use SAMBA as a domain controller.

    It will take some tweeking though.
