How to Create Domain on Windows 7?

That is correct. You cannot "create" a domain on a Windows 7 machine. Windows 7, XP, Vista, etc. are all client operating systems. Only a server operating system can be used to create a domain, such as Windows Server 2003, 2008, etc. Client operating systems can join a domain, but not create them.

So for your Windows 7 machine to be a part of a domain, you will need at least one other machine with a server operating system on it.

You haven't told us yet what you are trying to accomplish or why you think you need a domain on your machine. You may be going in the wrong direction and we may be able to help.

Hi, i have spent many hours searching the internet to get a related post near to what i am looking for.
Here is how i landed here,
-I have installed Microsoft SQL Server 2008
-No services is being listed on SQL Server Configuration Manager
-According to this link 'http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941823' which describe a solution for a similar problem on Microsoft SQL Server 2005
-I have installed an update to get the Group Policy, refer to: 'http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2010/03/how-to-download-and-install-the-group-policy-management-console-gpmc/'.
Upon running the gpmc.msc, it tells me to log on the computer using a domain user account...which brings me here as i don't know how to do it.

Please please help

Not up to date on Server 2008, but basically you need to create the domain accounts in the server, then you should be ablr to log-in to the domain from the client

Thanks for the reply Nigel, Here is the error message which i get when trying to connect using Miscrosoft SQL Server Management Studio:
(The Server name is correct)

Network theory is a little rusty I'm afraid but I assume that you have created the user and given them login remotely rights and the like, and the PC you are logging in from is also joined to the domain and has a the relevant entries on the server.

The error appears to be an SQL error rather than a specific network issue, I would check from the server console that the indicated service is running and that the database is set correctly for remote access - I assume you can access the DB from the server console?

Edit

One additional thing to watch on a MS domain is the use of duplicate names between local and domain user names is best avoided, as the can cause issues, things like logging in as Administrator from a remote location can be especially prone to problems.

I always required the Domain/user naming format to try and prevent this

I am not trying to log from a different PC, this problem is occurring on my own laptop.

I am NOT being able to use any DB.
