    connecting to xp smb share

hey gang, i'm brand new to windows 7. i've got a pre-existing windows xp computer that i really use as a server. i've got some shares setup on it, but i cant seem to map them from my windows 7 home premium laptop. i'm 100% sure i have the right user id and password... so something else is going on.

    Workgroup: myworkgroup
    XP Machine name: xppro
    laptop name: win7home
Both machines are part of the myworkgroup workgroup.

I even setup the admin user id and password to the same on both xp pro machine and windows 7 machine.

from my win 7 box i'm trying to map a drive to \\192.168.0.100\c$\

when i try to authenticate i've tried authenticating with xppro\username & then password. i've tried just putting username & password.

strangly enough, if i click the win 7 orb, and just type \\192.168.0.100\c$\ i can connect to my share that way just fine... it's when i try to map it that i have the problem.

If you are mapping directly to the C drive then you need to go into the Security permissions tab and allow for sharing of the drive first.

Excellent, i will check that tonight. Out of curiosity, is this a windows 7 issue, or an xp one? i ask because my wifes laptop (running xp) is able to remotely map the c$ (or any other drive) without issue. it's only from the win 7 machine it does not want to authenticate.
