Windows 7: VPN connects, no network access

I've set up the client to connect to the PPTP VPN at my workplace. It connects, but I can't access any computers on the network through explorer or remote desktop, by IP address or by name. Also, the internet will not connect after connecting to the VPN [we have a proxy, and the browser won't connect to it].



On the VPN status, the IPv4 Connectivity is listed as Internet
the IPv6 is listed as No Network Access.

I can, in a command prompt, ping network computers by name or IP. ipconfig /all gives, from what I can see, identical results to a Vista computer that connects properly.

This occurs from my house [set up as a Home network] and from public networks. The VPN is set up as a Work network. I've tried changing these and it doesn't seem to help. I've also tried disabling Windows firewall.

What are your settings in network and sharing center?

Which settings?

Go to network and sharing center and click advance sharing settings on the left. What is enabled or disabled?

The Home or Work and Public sections both have the following settings:
Network discovery: On
File and printer sharing: On
Public folder sharing: On
Media streaming: On
File sharing: 40- 56-bit
Password protected sharing: Off
HomeGroup connections: Use user accounts

Also, I've found that if I connect to the VPN when I'm plugged into my router, it works.

Partially solved: On the Networking Tab of the VPN Properties, highlight IPv6 properties, click advanced, and uncheck "Use default gateway on remote network." For some reason this allows Remote Desktop to connect to a computer by name. Explorer still will not resolve by name, but shares are visible using IP address.

i use vpn for work to get to my desktop
top
and it was drivin me nuts that i could get to mine win 7 home system with the built in vpn to my desktop but not to my work desktop

with this little setting now i can get to the desktop of any computer on the network

god it was slow window updates when i posted the tut on wmp12 streaming cus i was was going though a XP server to the Windows 7 desktop

I Cannot find Use :default gateway for Remote connection" in networking tab for CISCO VPN LAN2 in Windows 7 for VPN.

Please let me know, what to do, as I am able to connect to VPN but no RDP can be done, as per issue.

Sounds like you don't have remote desktop enable for that user also this guide is to connect fromage machine to another .. Make sure the machine you want to connect has access for that user you wish to connect AS
