Cannot see any wireless networks.

Hi guys, Here's the issue.
I have an edimax 7800n router and it works flawlessly with my laptops (one with 7 64bit, the other with 7 32bit) I have until now hard wired my desktop to the Ethernet ports. I have moved and the desktop is too far away to hard wire. So i bought an edimax EW-7727In wireless pci card for my desktop (i7-930, G-B X58A-UD5). Card installed fine, except I cannot view any networks on the desktop. I place my laptop next to the desktop the laptop picks up my home network as well as numerous other neighbours computers. I have re-booted, I have updated drivers, i have disabled/enabled and i have ran the diagnostic, still no dice. I can see the wireless network icon in lower left of the screen and it has a red cross through it. I did read somewhere that simply going to the mobility centre and turning wireless on would fix but i am yet to try this.

If any one could help that would be bloody great. I am trying to avoid wiring the house with cat6.

Have you tried resetting the modem itself? Sometimes it needs it to be dicoverable. I have had to do that in my home before with new devices. Had to do it with the Wii, my wife's new laptop and our iPhones. Not sure why but it worked for me.

Yes mate, tried different slots, disabled/enabled still no dice

You moved... hmmm it is the same ISP right???

Also, since you had that PC formally connected to the router via a wired connection and now have to go wireless, you now are presenting a new MAC address to that router. Many ISP's link that connection to the 1st wired client they were connected to.

SO with that said you have 1 of 2 options (IMO):

1. See if your router has MAC Address Cloning... if it does turn it on and enter the MAC of your wired card you used to use.
2. Call your ISP and tell them you need to reset that MAC address to that of the new MAC in the wireless NIC.

Dont think this is going to work as laptops have no issue with the router, as my desktop will not see any wireless networks that are seen by my laptop in the same position.

Whoops I misunderstood, thought you meant nothing could connect since move!

What shows up in device manger for this new wireless NIC?

Device shows as install and working fine, defo something on the desktop, hopeing with baited breath all I have to do is go to mobility centre and turn on wireless..... My only aprehension is that I thought that was for mobiles only
