user name or password incorrect error atlogin screen but fine remotely

    Hi
All of the user accounts on my windows 7 pc are locked out.
    I havent changed any passwords.

The last thing i remember doing was browsing computers on our
home networks, and having to enter a username and password
    to access my wifes pc.

Now whenever i try to log in to my pc i get the error
"user name or password is incorrect"

I know the user name and password are fine, as if I access my pc
from my wifes PC i can get access with the same user name and password
which is being rejected when i log into the PC itself - also if i deliberately
enter an incorrect password while connecting from the remote PC it correctly
    rejects this.

Im guessing something went wrong when I entered the user name /pass
to access my wifes pc ( These are the same as another user/pass on my pc )
    or I have a virus.

Ive tried booting into safe mode, the first time i did this it let me in ,
I changed the password and thought the problem was solved ( did not make
    a password reset disk ;-( )
However i later tried logging in with one of the other accounts - and got the error again.

Now im completely locked out. Even when I boot into safe mode I cant get past
the login screen, and just get the "user name or password incorrect" error.

has anybody seen this problem before ?

You can try going to Start, and type run and press enter. Then type "control userpasswords2" without quotes. Check and then uncheck the box "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.". Then select the user you want to automatically log in and either type the correct password, or leave it blank if it has none. The incorrect password may be entered in there. It's worth a try, anyway.
