Windows 7 - Possible solution for unidentified network access

can some one help me please, i don't see the advance tab,

For those still having trouble I recommend you do the following:

1. Follow Omar's original post.
2. Run: msconfig
3. Go to services
4. uncheck Bonjour service and apply
5. Restart
6. If there is still a problem
7. Repeat Omar's original post again
8. restart
9. If it works, start conspiracy theory as to why Apple is setting your default gateway to 0.0.0.0
10. If it doesn't - find another solution

My internet has been being screwy ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 and I could never figure out how to solve it beyond just sitting around waiting for the internet to randomly start working again! In the Network & Sharing Center window, click on "Change adapter settings". From there, right-click "Local Area Connection", go to "Properties", then click "Configure" in the window that comes up. From there, you can follow the thread starter's instructions

This actually saved me from all the hussle of reverting back to Vista.
I spent about 3 days !!! trying everything !!! EVERYTHING!!! reconfigured modem.. called my isp... changed around my routers... my Windows 7 PC just didn't wanted to connect to internet...
I could see all the pc's in my network (LAN), but no net connection, bloody hell...

Then I stumbled upon this post... and voila! here I am, surfing the net... lol ...

My "Network Address" field was displaying "Value: 0000000000000000".
I changed it with the random numbers the dude in first post used, and it worked!!! IT WORKED!!!

Unfortunitely, I cannot share the success. This didn't work for me. I do not have a Bonjour service to uncheck in the MSconfig but I followed the other advice. If anyone has more advice, I would appreciate it.

Just wanted to thank the original poster, this fixed my problems as well.

I had the unidentified network error as well.

What caused my initial problem was, my Tosh was on standby hooked into the home network. I am assuming it was in some kind of download or update state when my brother disconnected the ethernet cable and plugged it into another gateway laptop xp.

This wreaked havoc on both laptops. I got the new Tosh back online buy putting 12 zeros in the network address. 000000000000

It took, 7 made a home network and gave me a PW.

My GF is happy which means IM HAPPY> lol

I am having the same exact problem with my Dell laptop always seeing the home network as "unidentified Public network" and either no internet access or at least very limited. It probably hasn't worked two hours in the past week. However, I also have two desktop machines (Dell 420 and Dell 430) and both of them are working fine and always seeing the home network just like they are supposed to and both have great internet access. They all have new, clean installations of Win 7 Pro. The laptop (the one that I am having problems with) was the first one that I upgraded, when the other two desktop machines were still on XP Pro and Vista.......but, I doubt that had much to do with it.

Ok, so my question.........either Win 7 PRO is a little bit different from what you all are describing or I am the dumbest guy on this forum. I keep trying to click the buttons and get to the same places that you all mention and I just don't seem to see the same things or understand where I am to change the network address. My screen does look like the screenshot that I saw under one of the replies in this thread, but I just don't seem to see how to change anything. I have been scouring the internet for a solution to this problem and have tried several other things that folks said would work......but, they didn't. Either there is something different about the PRO version of Win 7 or my particular laptop is different or I'm just a very dense guy that can't seem to follow directions.......please help!!

If I could get more exact directions or any other kind of help from someone that knows this networking fix better, I would be eternally grateful. Please respond quickly as this laptop may get thrown out a second story window before too long if I can't figure out how to fix this problem.

With some of the new eithernet drivers for Windows 7 the MAC and IP can't be accessed in the normal way. The link below has a third party program that you can change your MAC with fairly easily in those cases where you can't do it the normal way. Lots or people are having the same problem as you.
