    PCI WIFI Cards

Why is it that Laptops appear to have such good WIFI Internet cards yet it seems so difficult to find decent PCI WiFi Cards for Desktops running Windows 7?

Welcome New to SF, I'm finding tons of adapters, not seeing the issue.

Besides what linnemeyerhere said. Why not use one of those USB sticks
Newegg.com - Wireless Adapters, PCI Adapter, Wireless-G Adapter, Wireless-G Network Adapter, PCI Wireless Adapter, Linksys Wireless Adapter.
Works quite well with the two PCs i have upstairs.

Yes there are some available, but they all seem to have either aerials, or have the USB dongles sticking out. Laptops just seem to have cards inside them that work without any aerials and I would have thought similar cards would be available for desktops. The main PC store here in UK told me they have stopped selling PCI WiFi cards as most WiFi users use Laptops, but I would like my Desktop to have less wired connections.

I use one that comes with a cradle so I plug the cable somewhere either in one of the back side USB ports or in one of my hubs and I'm good to go. The antennas in Laptop cards are usually inside the Lappi (sometimes inside the screen) which gives the whole thing some sort of directional characteristics. Then again, they're easier to turn around than your average desktop.

But why would antennas protruding from the back of your comp. bother you?
Anyways...unless anyone comes up with s/th better those are your choices. you decide.

Laptop WiFi cards have an antenna that runs around the inside of the display so you don't see it.

Thanks Guys, interesting about the aerials running around the screen on Laptops. That explains why my USB WiFi dongle only finds my Router, but my wife's laptops finds numerous WiFi routers in the surrounding area.
