    Using my laptop as wireless for my desktop


    Hey guys i've had a bit of a problem i've been trying to use my Wireless laptop as a modem for my Desktop PC because i have my desktop pc up in my room and my router is downstairs so is there any way i could use a ethanet cable to connect the two so i can connect to the internet on my Desktop PC?

    Pal I would recommend you get a wireless adapter for your PC.



    They are really cheap nowadays (anything from £5-30) and allot easier to set up than trying to use your laptop to connect

    Roughly the same price pal. But you don't have to open your case to use the USB adapter

    A wifi adapter (either USB or a PCI card) for your desktop should do the trick for you. You could setup a wired network between the two and then use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to share the 'net. The problem with that would be that the desktop would only have internet access when the laptop is running and connected to the internet. Adding a wifi adapter to the desktop will allow it to connect independently.
