How Do I Connect My Laptop To My PC? Alrigth Guys
I am having major problems at the moment. I have been trying for hours but I can not seem to figure out what to do..
I have recently gone out and brought a laptop that is running Windows 7 Home on it and I would like to connect it to my Pc which is running Windows 7 Ultimate on it so that I can transfers the files from my pc to it..
But that is where the problem lies.. I have tried everything but I can not connect between the both of them..
I even went out and brough at crossover ethernet cable and plug it into the laptop and then directly into the pc, and still nothing..
Windows 7 Ultimate is already telling me that there is a homegroup create, but I cant get the password at all. I even tried to change it and then it tells me that there is no homegroup connect, even though on the previous screen it says there is one..
So I am completely baffled.
I really need someone help!!! | My System Specs |

Are you behind a router by any chance ?? If so, your router should assign IP addresses to both. Just share what you want on your desktop and connect with your laptop using the IP address. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Optiplex OS Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Memory 4096 |

byronwells, Welcome to SF. What is the size and nature of the files you want to share. Photo's, music, data and the like? Networking the laptop in would be good, but a flash memory device which are so inexpensive now or even a portable hard drive is what I use. Nope.
I am trying to run it like a local area network.. The ethernet cable is directly plugged straight into the laptop and the pc..
However I do have a belkin wireless router that runs a virgin media cable modem through it.. But I have no idea how to set it up that way either | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate X 64 OS Windows 7 Ultimate X 64 |

Someone here will help you set this up. All you need is to configure the laptop and desktop in a home network and allow file sharing. This is not my wheel house so I'll let another walk you through it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number A blend of brains, brawn and dumb luck, ask me about rig #2 ! Does your router have wired ports or is it just wireless ?? Your laptop probably has a wireless built in. How does your desktop connect ??
If you're using the same credentials on both computers, connecting should not be an issue. Run ipconfig on both computers to see what IPs they have, then connect by IP.
If, on the other hand, only one is connected to the network and you MUST use a crossover cable, it's a little more involved.
Let us know how you connect and we'll go from there. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Optiplex OS Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Memory 4096 |

Hello,
Both computers need to be connected to your router wired or wireless and also need to be in the same Workgroup.
Create an identical UserName and Password on both computers.
If you have any Firewall or Security Software installed, disabled it for now. Windows 7 has an excellent builtin Firewall that you may use, just exclude Files and Printer sharing. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo Desktop/Samsung Laptop OS Win7 & Win8 64bit CPU Intel i5 Internet Speed Charter-20 Mbps Antivirus Avast Browser FF, IE9 and Chrome |

Now why on earth would the Op be using ICS if he had a router?
Here's a checklist of things for ICS and file sharing for 2 croslinked computers (in my case a Windows 7 and XP one):
- both computers set to the same workgroup
- restarts
- advanced sharing settings - all things turned on (network discovery etc.) except for password protected sharing
- bridged the connection with the internet
- turned on Internet Connection Sharing for the internet connection - this forced an ip to the other connection (192.168.137.1) and gave an option to select which connection should have access to the ICS (the second connection or the bridge - you choose the second / crosslinked cable connection)
- shared some folders on both computers
- worked instantly (the other pc aquired a correct ip and internet) | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8 Pro, CPU Q9650-4.275GHz, E8600 4.5GHz, E6750-3.8GHz Motherboard Evga 780i FTW Memory G.Skill PC2 9600 1200Mhz 5 5 5 15 2T Graphics Card GTX480 Sound Card Asus Xonar D2 Monitor(s) Displays HannsG Screen Resolution 1680X1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU ThermalTake Toughpower 1000Watt modular Case ThermalTake XaserV Cooling Xigmatek S1283 Hard Drives GSkill Phoenix Pro 120GB SSD Internet Speed T1 How Do I Connect My Laptop To My PC? problems?
