Win7 with TCPOptimizer?

Hi forum,

I used to use TCP Optimizer with XP-SP3. Has anyone experiences with it and Win7? Is it advisable to use it or will it mess some features of Win7? I heard 7/Vista tune them self alone without tools?!

This interests me too, cause i used to use tcp optimizer a lot in xp, but as you said, i read that it is not advisable to use such tools in vista and windows 7.

It would be great though if somebody came up with a similar utility for tuning an internet connection under vista/win 7, cause i have a feeling that the so called self-tuning in these OSes does not function so well, and the internet connection does not seem to reach its full potential.

Unfortunately Vista/2008 server are very different than 9x/XP/2003, and the TCP Optimizer does not have any effect currently. We're considering releasing a Vista version, however, it would probably have to be considerably different.

I think im gonna pass on TCPOptimizer till something compatible and safe comes up.

TCP Optimizer lets you back up your current settings, so I decided to give it a try. It works perfect, definitely helped my routing across the board in Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Given that TCP doesn't do "routing", I have to say that I'm surprised :)

In pre-Vista versions of Windows there was a case to be made for utilities which made it easier for administrators to optimise their TCP parameters for a given link. Such "optimisers" did nothing whatsoever that you couldn't do through direct registry editing - if you knew how to - so it would be more accurate to call those utilities "regedit facilitators".

As of Vista, the "compound TCP" (CTCP) stack is entirely self-tuning, irrespective of the link latency and quality, so 99.99% of all reghacks will be detrimental in terms of throughput.

Short version: what little need existed for these sorts of utilities under WinXP and Win2K3 has now completely evaporated under Vista and Win7.

Well perhaps routing was the wrong word Mr. Smart Guy Point is TCP Optimizer sped up my downloads and uploads from places that were previously slower before using it by a significant margin. No long winded response needed, it did what its supposed to do, so for those who wanted to use it but were unsure, go for it.

2 out of 2 posts speak glowingly of the product. You must be very happy indeed.

I just tried this on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64, I still get same download/upload rates on speed test but everything loads up quicker which is awesome!
