Windows 7: XP doesn't see Network.

XP doesn't see Network.

My Home network is through the Mains, one plugged in downstairs and one upstairs, all working correctly, no problems.

When I plug my laptop into the mains it picks up the network right away.

Now, my lad brought his two laptops down for me to update, remove expired Norton and install MSE on both.

First one with Vista no problem, picked up the Network uninstalled Norton, installed MSE, Updated (25).

Next one XP, plugged into mains, No way would it see the network, WHY,

All my systems are Seven.

Have you checked that the workgroup name is the same on the XP machine?

Have you run the network connection wizard in XP?

It could also be that Norton wasn't uninstalled completely.

As chev65 said............Between 7 and earlier versions. 7 Needs WORKGROUP to work.

The wizard helped when I set-up my XP an 7 group, just watch your prompts...

I dis-abled/un-installed all security when setting the network. then went back in to white-list.

Solved the problem by using a plug in Netgear Adapter WG111T,

Possibly no internal Wi Fi.

So the onboard wifi was not connecting or wasn't seeing the network for some reason? Kinda strage that the WG111T would work but not the onboard.

No, if it had had an inbuilt adapter it should have picked it up from the house mains.
