    new router but slower speed?

I was using an old Linksys wireless router but got a new Cisco/Linksys Valet router. Upload and dowload speeds usually good, but sometimes there is a very noticeable drop in download speed. My ISP, Comcast says no trouble from their end and router tech support says no trouble with them either. Where I notice a huge drop in speed is streaming with Netflix. I never ever had a slow speed before but now with Netflix, via Wii on TV a movie will stop and show it is retrieving.

Question: Can my new router somehow result in slower speed?

    Hmm...

Check to see if your router is set to a/b/g/n or a lower speed like b. I like to have mine on the fastest speed unless a slower adapter prevents this.

You can also flash your router to see if this helps. Make sure your router is not being blocked, is high up and clear of obstructions.

You can connect to a site such as:

Check My Internet Connection Speed | Internet Connection Speedometer | McAfee

Also, I think some ISPs will reduce your speed when streaming large amounts of data, but I'm not positive of this.

Finally, I have a Linksys router, but flashed it with dd-wrt

I can actually increase my signal strength, within reason.

    Thanks very much. Excellent ideas.
Right now I have one more problem that I need to resolve.

I just got a new Dell Studio 15 All worked great until after upgrade from Win 7 Home to Win 7 Ultimate. After hours with tech support at cisco and Comcast cable internet support the laptop is apparently missing drivers. Tried to use the drivers dvd and the system restore dvd but apparently I don't have a clue.
    Any suggestions please?

If it's a new problem, you need to start a new thread.
