Network Printer Offline

I have a HP 2605DN printer connected to a wireless router that is connected to my desktop running XP. It has always worked great. I have a HP laptop running Windows 7 64 that has been configured to use the HP printer wireless through the router. It has worked great until today. It now shows offline and I cannot get to to show online even though I can print from the desktop. I have read some forums about this but I have not seen a configuration exactly like mine that describes a fix.

I have now found out that the reason the printer worked from my desktop was because the usb cable was still connected and it was using that to print. Now that the usb cable is disconnected I cannot print from the desktop either.

Hi Turbold,

First off, verify that the printer's network cable is working and connected to the router's LAN Port.

What might have happened is the network printer is now using a different IP Address. There are diff options to find out the IP Address of the network printer.

To find out about this information, you will need to print a Config page of the printer from the Menu Option. Usually when you setup a network printer, you would change the DHCP (Auto IP) to Static (Manual) IP.

You may also uninstall/reinstall the printer's software/driver by using the printer's CD software from each computer, it should detect the new IP Address. This is an easy option too.

For me, it's easier for me to run AdvancedIPScanner. Click on Scan now....and should detect all the IP Addresses and MAC Addresses of the network devices (computers, printers, NAS). As soon as you get the IP Address, I'd change the Auto IP Assignment to Manual IP thru the Printer's Menu itself or browser.

Hope this helps, if not please post an update.

Thanks for the help. I printed the network config page from the printer and it does not list a IP address. I have turned it off and back on but still no IP. I ran Advanced IP Scanner and it did not find it either. Somehow the printer got reset and I can't seem to get it back where it was.

Have you tried changing the network cable? Make sure that you're using a straight/patch cable.

Can you manually assign the IP Address on the printer? Some printers are capable of it. Run the Advanced IP Scanner again and choose an IP Address that's not being used in your network.

or...You may do a reset of the printer to factory default settings, then see if Advanced IP Scanner will detect the IP and again you may try to assign a Static IP within your network IP range.

I replaced the network cable. I have tried everything and my thinking is that somehow my printer is on the blink. I have manually entered the IP and it still doesn't work. Also, when I turn the printer off all values that were entered are now lost.

Perhaps the integrated network adapter went out. You may still share your printer in your network if you want. Use a USB cable plug and it in to another computer and share the printer.
Please follow this guide on how to share files/printer in your network - Windows 7.

Please let us know and post another update.

have you tried settings its network configuration to DHCP (as opposed to static)?

Printer offline
I just migrated to Win 7(64) this weekend, fairly smooth. However, I have noticed that the Brother 5250DN printer is offline all the time; wireless. If I go to SERVICES and turn off Print Spooler for a few seconds it works when I put the spooler back on. Any ideas? Thanks.
