Yes thanks, it sounded complicated but a friend has told me about a program which will basically do what you've suggested for me. Which I will try out!

At the very least you will need to disable DHCP in the first or second router which might give you a change at getting this to work. "these set ups are not supported and can be highly problematic".

The best way would be to obtain a "modem only" can't be a combo one. Then just run an eithernet cable from the modems WAN port going into your wireless routers WAN port, modem>wireless router>~PC, basic and simple but more importantly it's the correct way to do this.
I'll look into that option, thanks.

Actually, hang on.
My PC is wired. I'm confused. :/
Wired or not makes no difference, the easiest fix is to get rid of the second router. Or you can turn off DHCP on one of those routers and hope for the best.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I have the same problem. I only have a single router and the failure can occur at any time. Rebooting the PC does not help - I too must power cycle the router. The problem only started after an upgrade to windows 7, had years of no trouble under XP. I believe it to be a very bad bug in Windows 7. I am going to look at other network options (rather than onboard LAN) such as a seperate PCI network card or maybe even using a wireless USB adapter to see if that helps.
