This really depends on what he is using for security and encryption, find out if he's using WEP,WPA or WPA2 and also if he's using TKIP or AES encryption, you will also need the SSID and the password. You should be able to connect once you set up the connection with the right info.
Once you have that info you can set up the wireless account by choosing to set up a new wireless connection
manually then define those exact settings when you set up the connection.
