Wireless not working on new laptop

Good Morning - Any help is appreciated.

I purchased a new HP laptop (G42 41 5DX) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BIT. When connecting to wireless, it says limited access and is not working. However, when connecting via the ethernet cord, I can get online with no problem. We own a desktop and another laptop which connects to the wireless without any problems so I know that the signal is fine. Verizon Fios is my ISP and my router is an Actiontec MI424WR Rev E.

I've tried a hard reset of the router (leaving it unplugged) but this has not fixed the problem.

Any advice?

You will want to go into the network and sharing center on your Win7 machine.

Choose the option to set up a new connection use the manual wireless set up then designate your routers settings when you do that. Win 7 likes to use WPA2-PSK security and AES encrytion. You also need to type in your SSID and your wireless password.

It's also important to go back into your routers wireless settings after you reset your router to create the SSID and password, you will also need to select the security and encryption again. Use those settings when you set up your Win7 wireless connection.

I know that the wireless password is the WEP code on the back of the router, however, where do I find my SSID?

You would normally create the password and SSID "name of network" in your routers wireless settings on the routers wireless set up page.

Depending on your routers brand, to access that page you type in the default gateway of the router into your browsers URL. For your router it's 192.168.1.1

I'm setting up a new network name right? When I entered the HR801 that my other two computers use it stated that it had already been set up so I made a new network called test with my old wep key password. The screen now says successfully added test.


Now I went to 192.168.1.1 and a verizon page popped up asking for the user name and password. When attempting to enter a password, more characters are popping up then I put in. For example, when I put in the first letter (shown as black dots), two additional letters pop up. I go to backspace the two extra letters and type in another letter and the same thing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Also - would purchasing a new router fix this?

I reviewed the link, would purchasing a new router fix this problem being that this seems to be related to having Verizon Fios' router?

Fixed! I called Verizon for a second time and they used gotoassist to take over my computer (view my screen) and they fixed it some how. Thanks for your time!!!

Nice one that you got it fixed pal, but for future reference if any 1 remote assists you to resolve a problem, make sure they tell you in detail what they have done to fix it .... knowledge is a great thing and might help you in the future (plus save you a few quid)
