Can't connect my WinXP PC to win 7 using cross over cable. :(

Hi,
I was trying to connect my old XP PC with my new Notebook using cross over cable. I configured IP addresses manually in both systems. Pinging can be done successfully from both the systems. but i cant share any files. Unidentified network is showing up in Windows 7.. please help
