Wireless help! Dell Inspiron 1545

Hey all!
I have a fairly new Dell Inspirson 1545 and until now it was working fine. My wireless internet is now not working. It finds the network fine but then says that it cannot connect. It also will not troubleshoot. The adapter is on correctly and I know it is not the wireless router because other laptops in the house are using the same wireless. When hooked up wired through an Ethernet cable it works fine...
Anyone know what's up?

Make sure that you have not inadvertantly turned off the wireless switch. You can also disable TCP/IPv6 in your adapter properies.

The first thing I would do is go into Device Manager, expand Network Adapters, right click on the Wireless adapter then select Uninstall. If asked, do not allow it to delete the drivers, you just want to delete the entry for the wireless device.

Reboot, Win 7 will rediscover the wireless device and reload the drivers. See if that helps, often does.

All looks fine there. The next thing to try is to reset WinSock and TCP/IP Protocol stack. Open an Elevated Command Prompt and enter the following:

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

How to open an Elevated Command Prompt:

1. Click on Windows 7 Start Button
2. Go to All Programs then Accessories
3. Right click on Command Prompt and select “Run as Administrator” from context menu.

Reboot and see if that helps. If you want, you can try each one individually to see which one works (if it works).

Can you do a hard wire to your router or Modem? Using a Cat5 cable.

If we do that then we will know that your internet is working good. We can also narrow down some problems doing so.

Once you connect to your router/Modem with the cat5 cable.. can you repost the IPCONFIG /all

Hi please check if this works.
1.Refresh the drivers.(Device manager) got to device manager>wireless card>Right click>unistall dont check the small box.
2.Power cycle the Router. 3.Log into safe mode with networking(shut down the computer> turn it back before the dell logo starts up keep tapping the F8 key constantly untill you see Advanced boot options choose safe mode with networking)

3.still no go ......... Disable fire wall........check if any other systems are connected to the same network..... if yes...do a system Restore.

4. last option is PC restore.

Can't activate Wireless Adapter: Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card

Dear All

Thanks for useful advice on this thread but I have tried everything in this thread, to no avail.

I have downloaded the following drivers for the wireless card (R256972 and R242432 from Dell) that are supposed to be the specs for my laptop and settings, but refuses to install as "appropriate hardware not detected"

I have

Windows 7 Professional x64
Dell Inspiron 1545

Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card
Broadcom File Version 4.176.75.18

Any tips please?

:-)
