Trying to Network a Printer on a D-Link DIR-625 A1
Hello all,
I have D-Link DIR-625 which claims to have the ability to share USB devices accross a network. I have spent countless hours when I first bought the router 2 years ago and over the last few days trying to enable this feature. I'm really tired of leaving a computer on all the time w/ the printer connected to it so everyone in the family can print.
I don't think this should be be hard to do running Windows 7 x64 on all the PC's and Laptops. I just don't have the knowledge. I'm not a complete newb though. I understand most things needed to get a network up and going w/ passwords, encryption, mac address's, and port forwarding.
I have this router configured properly w/ Upnp enabled, QoS, and the latest firmware. Here is an emulator. The home networking software that came w/ the router is Network Magic by Cisco but it is only a 30day trial and fails to log onto the router. What a rip off.
*Update* I was able to get Network Magic to log onto the router; however, it still cannot find the printer or ExHDD. I also noticed once I rebooted after I installing Shareport that a new device is found; but, is an "Unknown Device". I tried installing print drivers to it but alas it doesn't work. I can't help but wonder if this is some kind of network protocol for the USB port.
Any help would be much appreciated.
According to the support pages at D-Link, I am supposed to download their proprietary "Shareport" software. But, that is not an option for DIR-625 rev A1. It is an option for rev C and above.
Thanks in advance for any help here.
