Hardwire Connection Not Working?
Hello, I'm new here. And what does every noob do? Post a problem. Here's mine:
I try to connect to the internet via a hardwired connection. I.E. the Ethernet cable is plugged directly from the modem to the computer with no router between. Most of the time, though, it doesn't work. It gives me the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point on the bottom right of the screen.
If I leave the computer on all night, in the morning it will work. That's retarded. If I connect to my Windows XP laptop (directly, not wirelessly), it works instantly. If I restart my computer the connection is lost; specifically, the icon at the bottom right shows we have connection, but when we try to actually use the internet it doesn't work. After that the yellow triangle comes in.
It seems like, maybe, Windows 7 is having problems identifying the connection? I've tried this on one desktop and 3 laptops. 2 of the laptops are XP, the rest are Windows 7. (And again, the XP's work perfectly)
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is? Do you know how to fix it? Does this post even make sense?!?!
