DHCP DNS problems with Speed touch router on BT Broadband
I'm a BT broadband customer and have configured my speedtouch wireless router to connect to the internet instead of that appology called the homehub. On my old Dell Latidude D630 laptop with windows XP pro, it gets a DHCP address and DNS settings from the router. Everything works nice and fast and I've never had any connection problems. Sturdy little work horse. On my new dell insperon M5010 it has windows 7 Home 64 bit. It picks up a DHCP address but point blank refuses to resolve any website addresses. Running the network trouble shooter returns a blank look from windows. Sometimes it lets me connect to the routers IP address, others it pings out, and they're in the same room. My wife's Acer Aspire 5742 also runs 7 Home 64 and again picks up DHCP but refuses to resolve DNS requests. To circumvent this, I've had to manually set the DNS servers to google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which gives us some sporadic internet access. The router has already been configured to the google DNS and serves it out to the windows XP lattitude happily but the 2 boxes running 7 have no joy. With the DNS manually set, sometimes the internet will stop responding completely and running the network trouble shooter again returns another "unable to fix this" message. I've tested this in Firefox, chrome, safari, and even internet exploder and they're all effected. Ping and trcert are also effected being unable to find a route. The windows XP laptop happily sits there, permenantly connected to the internet, finding pages and googling away, pinging and trcerting it's little cores out while the 2 newer laptops simply refuse to cooperate. I've found that manually disconecting from the wireless connection and reconnecting "sometimes" fixes the issue for a while but always, especially on my wifes Acer, the host resolving will at some point later return Speaking to BT was no help as the XP machine works so the problem is with windows 7 64 bit and not the router config or physical connection. Anyone have any clues why 7 64 throws a wobbler on a wireless connection?
