So i set up the static IP for the PC but that didn't work so i guess it wasn't an IP clash. Any other suggestions?
reading through all your posts, makes me think there is more than one network in your home. IF so...try connecting to the other network (you said when you took your machine to a shop, they could not duplicate the problem--I assume that means the machine functioned properly) it would seem the problem is not with your machine--but with your network connection and /or router--like I said try connecting to another network--(reset to dynamic IP first) If problem disappears--then only thing left--is your router or related connection--inversely--try connecting another computer in your home to your connection--IF it act the same as yours--then the problem is definitely with your connection/router.
Well i only have one network in my home however i could try and connect using a wired connection to the wireless router i have that also has lan ports. Might try it tomorrow and see if i have any luck with that.
in my neighborhood I can see about 6 or 7 available connections, in addition to my own. Some are connectable as they are 'unsecured'. signal strengths vary. I know some computers can be configured to 'search for any available connection'. Is it possible you could be automatically connecting to something like these? i'm sure drop-outs would be common in this scenario
it has been established there is only ONE network in your house.
how many modems? (your original post says you try to ping 'your modem')
how many routers?
I think your machine is fine--the problem lies somewhere in your connection!
one incoming internet line--should have ONE modem.
you can have more than one router-but the additional routers need to be setup as 'switches' connection to the primary router--which should be connected to the the ONE modem.
Yes i believe that is how the network at my home is set up.
I only have 1 modem but i have a router connected to it as well but im not sure on how its configured ill go check up on it when i get the chance. Anyway Thanks for trying to help i hope we can get this thing to work.
Okay, you are using Windows 7 Professional .. so you have the option to do this for us...
can you snip a photo of your Windows 7 Network Map under your Network and Sharing Settings. That way we will have an understanding.... Also, can you snip us a copy of : ipconfig /all through "cmd"
That way we can look at IP address, DNS servers and gateways.
Alright attached are these things. We changed the modem to the one bigpond gave us recently but i haven't been able to test it thouroughly yet. Also i don't know why the network map doesn't want to show.
Lets try updating your drivers....
If you can right click on the properties of your NIC card in your device manager. Check the true model of your NIC card.
Just go here and download the latest driver... check again..

Also, Uncheck your TCPv6 adapter as well if your not using Home Group.
We just need to narrow down the problem so we are just going to try a few other things
If you could as well... lets put static IPs on your TCPv4:
IP: 10.0.0.10
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.0.138
I would try different DNS Numbers:
by default on your router it gives you: 10.0.0.138
