Looking for some help with our IP settings.
Trying to register on a website on two different laptops, but the IP address when viewed from the web is the same for both machines - and hence I can't register on the second machine.
Is there any way to get the second laptop to have a different external IP address?

You have one external IP address and many different internal IP addresses (the router issues an IP address for each computer connected to it). AFAIK, you'd need to have your ISP issue you another IP address, which would involve another modem I believe.

Hi Jipper, welcome to the Seven Forums.
The external IP is for your line (router), so every device you have using the same line have their individual internal IP but one, common external IP. If you need different external IP's, you need to connect to Internet using different lines with each having their own router (or modem).
If a website, service or similar does only allow one login from one IP, they have reasons to do so. Quite often this is to assure you can not have multiple user accounts. This is why I am not willing to tell you any workarounds for this. Some other members might think differently, which I doubt.
Actually a lot of ISP's offer what is called a range of IP addresses. Basically that gives you 4-5 public IP addresses.
Yes, that's true. I was talking about majority of us normal broadband subscribers who have one router with one line & contract. If you are willing to pay more, you get more.
I know with Road Runner they will charge 5 dollars extra for another DHCP IP address from them.
What you would have to do is split the connection from the back of the modem.
Modem ===>> Switch ==>> Wire 1 >>> First Router >>> Wire 2 >> Second Router plugged into the WAN port.
Then you will have a separate IP for each computer. You will just need to Port Forward what you need it for per case, per computer.
You can plug both routers into one another so that the computers can see one another on the network so you can share but that is a whole other story.
