Best way of syncing laptop and desktop both with W7 64bit HP

    Hi,

I want to sync specific folders on my desktop to my laptop. The only way I know is by using syncback SE. However, I need to share the folders in order for syncback to work. I have tried the Sync centre in the Acessories, but I could not see my drive, and nothing happens. I tried to remotely control my laptop from my desktop, nothing happens as well. Does anyone know what is the best method of syncing files?

    Thanks

Many use MS SyncToys and like it.

I use Windows Live Essentials Live Mesh, which synchronizes my User folders between computers and on Windows live Skydrive (5gb free per account) which can be accessed from anywhere.

I have a free dropbox account for that. Also, I do not like the idea of placing my documents online.

Tried that, the program froze halfway scanning both folders. I managed to get the laptop folders on the "Homegroup" network and used syncback free to sync both folders. My only question is, if I go somewhere else with a shared connection, can anyone else see and edit my documents as I have placed folders I placed in the homegroup shared folder?

Is there a way to protect this shared connection so that only my desktop can sync with my laptop without other people snooping in?

That is why there is a very encrypted password when setting up Homegroup just for that reason...

but when it comes to logging into another account on the computer... Not sure... You may want to test it but i know for a fact that they can remotely see it..

    can vouch for dropbox.
    very simple.
    very free.
    cross platform and form factor.

only downside is that initially the free account has a 'limited' 2GB allowance. but you can bump it up through referrals...
