You'll have to give the experts a lot more details if you want them to help you. Please post back with the details of just how many computers there are and exactly what version of Windows 7 they all run. How do you connect to the Internet, is it via cable, satellite or ADSL. Do you want the machines connected via Ethernet cable or Wireless and will they all be in the same room or in different ones and are they all desktop machines or laptop.

Please post back with as many details as possible and I'm sure one of the experts will be able to help you, oh have you had a look through the Tutorials to see if there's anything there that can help you ?

Okay... Where is your ASDL modem located... how far is one another computer from one another..

The way I have it hooked up in my house...

Cable Modem ==> Router ==> Switch One & Switch Two

    Switch One:
Front of the House === >>> Branches out to Cat5 Wall Jacks

    Switch Two:
Back of the House ====>> Branches ou to Cat5 Wall Jacks as well

Router is Wireless if you decide to have a cell phone or Iphone connected to it.

My cable modem and router are in the same box here. I only have one switch located 1m away from the router.

At the present I have connected a Linksys router to the first mentioned router that let me connect to the last mentioned router, if I have something there's wireless on the table. How can you connect a cell phone to a wireless router ?

    ASDL/Router >>> Switch
If your Router has more than one port, usually four. You can plug the two computers into this one....
Than use Lan Port 3 from the Router and string it to the other room where Third Computer is...
    From there...

    Switch:
    Lan Port 1: Third Computer
Lan Port 2: Another Lan Cable that will run into the next room.... for Fourth Computer
Lan Port 3 & 4: Empty if you want to expand.

Switch 1 to Other room where 4th Computer is located...
You can either directly plug it into the computer or route it into another switch.

That is the easy way of doing it. Daisy Chain...

    SECOND WAY:
TWO COMPUTERS COME OUT OF THE ROUTER
THIRD PORT: GOES INTO THIRD COMPUTER
FOURTH PORT: GOES INTO FOURTH COMPUTER

But you have to think... if you don't daisy chain, then for every computer, you have to run a line (cat5) per computer... so you think about how much wire you have to run and buy.

It just really depends on how many walls you go through.

YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION...

[Q] What's the longest (maximum length) CAT 5 patch or crossover cable I can buy from you?

[A] The maximum length (maximum certifiable length) for CAT 5 patch or crossover cables is 328 feet (100 meters).

Beyond that, you run the risk of signal loss and other complications.
    =======================================================
So if it goes beyond this length... you may have to plug it into a switch to boost the signal.

    @acurasd

Thank you for your last reply. I can see the points you mention.

But say I want to run 2 computers on one Network, and the last 2 on another
    Network.

How do I that using the same router/switch ?

Yeah you can do it with two routers... you can always replace the switch with a router...

as long as your Subnet is the same than it should be able to find each network...

Or are you talking about different Workgroups?

    Router One:
Not Sure where you are... but here in america this is the typical setup. I know because you used meters.

    1. IP from Modems DHCP through the wan

    Internal Network (First Router)
    IP: 192.168.1.1 (Router Gateway)
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Run a Cable into the WAN port of the 2nd Router:
    Activate the Static IP:
    So you would give it:

    IP: 192.168.1.20
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.2.1
    DNS Servers: from your router

You can always use DHCP but its more reliable to use Static

    Change the Internet Network to:
    192.168.2.1 ===> Routers Gateway
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    DNS

With this.. it should be able to see both networks but 2 computers will have the IPs: 192.168.1.*
    Other Computers will have: 192.168.2.*

Now I may be a little off so if anyone else can shine a light..it would be appreciated.
