Computer does not automatically connect to internet at startup

For the last couple days one of our two computers does not connect to internet when it is first started. There is a simple band aid, which is to disable the on-board network adapter then enable again, which triggers internet connection which then stays connected until the computer is turned off. So not an emergency, but I'd like to fix it.

Any ideas what could cause the problem?

    Info:
Both computers are connected to a standard 5 port router/switch which is connected to broadband modem - in our case point-to-point wireless using 802.11b (we are too far from town for cable or dsl.) Only one computer is affected so that suggests that the problem is not in the router or modem/radio unit. When the one with the problem is turned on and shows no internet connection, I can open the gui interface to the router and get a ping from the router but not the modem/radio.

I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling the network adapter driver, which seemed to work when I tested right after, but problem was back this morning.

The only thing in the event log is a 1014 reporting a timeout trying to resolve the router name because the DNS servers failed to respond. This seems nore like a result than a cause of no connection. DNS server addresses are stored in the modem/radio which has a static IP address. Adapter and router are set to obtain ip address automatically.

I'd have to see your ipconfig /all to make an accurate diagnoses of the problem. Just type ipconfig /all into your command prompt and use the snipping tool to save the picture and post it here please. :)

Try rebooting your router. The faulty condition is not seeing your router as the gateway to the internet. It could be due to a logic latch in the router and a reboot could clear it.

The problem I see is that in the first ipconfig it shows 0.0.0.0 for your default gateway then under that it shows the default gateway, I'm not sure if you typed that in or not.

I'm not sure why it's doing that but you might try typing in the default gateway of 10.0.0.2 manually into your IPv4 properties to go around the problem.

It also might help to flush the IP and reset everything.

Try running this batch file which will reset winsock, reset the TCP/IP stack and release renew your IP.

Just out of curiosity do you have something installed called Bonjour?

There are issues where certain software especially bonjour can cause that exact issue, the double gateway address, which is what is breaking your internet.

Bonjour installs with Adobe photo suite, iTunes and a few other apple programs. Lets hope it's not on his system but if it's there...

    To fix ...
    Run MsConfig

Under the Services tab uncheck the service called "##Id_String1.6844[... and then a bunch of numbers]" by Apple

To get bonjour off your system for good read below.

    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Bonjour
    2. Rename the mdnsNSP.dll file in that folder to mdnsNSP.old
    3. Restart your computer
    4. Delete the Program Files\Bonjour folder

I had tried that, both just unplug power, then and hard reset using the switch reached with wire through small hole. No help. Have not tried other suggestions yet.

It shows up that way. I just typed the underlines to align it where it was in the command prompt window. This forum removes leading blanks so it appeared to far left in forum post.

after disable/enable, the 0.0.0.0 is gone.

Just to clarify. The "good" computer is 10.0.0.4, the problem computer is 10.0.0.2, and the gateway is 10.0.0.1. But I'll try the approach.

Not completely sure what you mean. I did reboot the modem/radio unit (a Ubiquiti Nanstation2) and the router (Netgear RP614v4).
