Cant access public folder without user name and password?

Hi hope some one can help as this is really bugging me.

I have 2 HP laptops running Windows 7. I can access the puplic folder and printer sharing from the first laptop to the secound. When I try to access the puplic folder from the secound laptop to the first I get this error.

As far as I know all my setting are correct in the 2 laptops. here is the screen shotts on the setting.

and the other laptop all looks the same so I dont understand why its asking for passwords.

    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

If you know the credentials, you might check that box that says to remember them and it likely wont appear again

I have the same issue, and like the OP a password hasn't been setup. And the password protected sharing is turned off....

I had the same issue. I have 3PCs, all running Win7, in a workgroup. I use the same local username on all 3 PCs, however I only have a password on 2 of them. The password is the same on both PCs that are password protected. The machine without a password attached to the username could not access Public Folders.

To fix the issue you can use the same username & password on every machine. If you do this your User Folders and Public Folders will be visible. Or you can use a unique username (with or without passwords) on every machine and only Public Folders will be visible when you browse your network.

Thanks for your replies. I thought I would have a go at the user name and password so I tried user name "admin" and password "admin". It worked so there must be a default password set up in windows 7 somewhere with admin for a user name and admin for a password. If anyone els gets the same problem try typing in admin for both user name and password.

I had the same problem but to i figured a way to resolve it. All I did was go into Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Centre>Choose Homegroup and Sharing Options>Change Advance Sharing Settings>Then tick the "Turn Off Password Protected Sharing" Save the settings and then you are done.
