2 computers on same network, 1 with very slow internet

As the title suggests im connected to the internet fine and I have another second computer wired up to the router and I can access the files over the network fine, its been working fine now for about 8 months but just recently on the second computer I have noticed that the internet speeds have dropped right of to useless and it even constantly disconnects too.

The main computer does not disconnect and it does not slow down, working perfect in fact... so i cant get my head around it. The only updates/software that has been installed on the second computer are windows updates.

I've even purchased a new router/modem thinking that was the issue but alas it is not.

My wife also has a wireless laptop and that works just perfect too, so the problem seems to lie with the second computer and I dont know what to do to resolve it... been racking my head...

It will connect to the internet but its dam slow and majority of the time is useless, its a wired connection via ethernet straight into the router. (daughter is moaning at me now to fix it !!)

    Any thoughts

    Thanks

Have you tried a different cat5 cable?

hey moddinman, thanks for the response

kind off yes, when I say its connecting via ethernet its actually connecting around the house electrics system via something similar to these >> TP-Link AV200 Mini Powerline Starter Kit (TL-PA211KIT) [TL-PA211KIT] I had a spare pair and changed them over and the cat5e and its still the same, I guess a true test will be a ethernet cable running directly, so luckily I have one handy so im going to test it now..

    Wait out...

bah, that was an easy fix/solution

I used the spare router downstairs and plugged it straight into second PC, internet is working fine.. in fact im on it now.

I don't understand why those gadgets have been working oka for 6 months + and have now decided to fail...

oh well, ive just ordered a USB wireless dongle for it, so hopefully that's another route I can try.

    Thanks

Just glad I could help. I'm not too keen on those powerline network adapters. Wireless N is quite affordable now.
