Is it possible to link an Ubuntu PC and a window PC over a network?

I want to know if it would be possible to have an Ubuntu PC and a Windows laptop connected to the same network, and to be able to exchange files and folders between the 2 devices?

It's definitely possible, but I don't know the steps off-hand for Ubuntu. They both run TCP/IP, so they can communicate with each other.

Yes, you have to install SAMBA onto the Ubuntu box in order to exchange files.

Roughly, the steps are as follows;

sudo apt-get install smbfs

sudo mkdir /mountpoint (you can call mountpoint whatever you like and put it wherever you want)

sudo mount -t cifs //server/share /mntpoint -o username=Windows_user_name
