I just went back onto Windows 7 without Safe Mode and for some reason it's giving me the same info given in the opening post.

Back to square one I guess..

I had the same problem with the 'Unidentified Network' when starting windows and the only way to solve it was to disable/enable my network adapter. Then I remembered I cloned the MAC address of my network card on the router, so by simply changing my computer's mac address to a random 12-digit number the Unidentified Network doesn't show up any more when I start Windows.

To change your adapter MAC address go to Device Manager >> Network Adapters >> Right click on your network card >> Propreties >> Advanced Tab >> Network Address and enter a 12-digit alphanumeric string(0 to 9 or A to F) in the Value field>> OK

I Hope this helps.

For those still having trouble I recommend you do the following:

1. Follow Omar's original post.
2. Run: msconfig
3. Go to services
4. uncheck Bonjour service and apply
5. Restart
6. If there is still a problem
7. Repeat Omar's original post again
8. restart
9. If it works, start conspiracy theory as to why Apple is setting your default gateway to 0.0.0.0
10. If it doesn't - find another solution

I found something that actually worked 4 me and it might help you too! First I went to device manager under properties for computer, went to my network adapter, and clicked the uninstall button; when I rebooted, it said device driver software unsuccessfully installed but when I checked it in device manager, it was fine. When I unplugged the wireless adapter it said it was connected with internet! Hope this works for anyone else too.

Unidentified Network is usually an error in the winsock catalog registration. Here are a few options to fix it:

1-. Go to start menu
open control panel
open network and sharing center
go to the very left side of the screen and open:
-in windows vista: manage network connections
-in windows 7: change adapter settings

Once in there do a right click on top of local area connection and disable it, wait a moment and right click on the icon again and enable it back.

2-.If that didnt work try this:
Go to start menu
open all programs
open accesories
do a right click on top of "command prompt" and select "run as administrator"
a windows will pop up asking you to allow the program to make changes amd you must click ok there.

Now you will see a black screen in here you need to type:
netsh winsock reset catalog
and hit enter
at the end it should say : successfully flushed the winsock reset catalog, you must restart the computer in order to complete the reset (so restart your computer here and reset your modem and router if any).

If when you bring the computer back you still have the same issue. there is nothing that could help you.
To change your ethernet cable or your modem (if any) could be another option, but most likely wont be related.

If this doesnt work, means you might have a virus (even if it doesnt show up) you will need to take the pc to a local technician or if you have warranty on the pc would be a good time to use it.

Good luck

ps: your ISP should be able to guide you through the same process I just described there, so call them and ask them some help

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

Following the procedure in the link below will fix many types of this so called Unidentified Network problem.

This fix has to do with the presence of a secondary default gateway with the incorrect value of 0.0.0.0 .

I figure that because this post has over 28K views I might was well post the fix for this problem which has already worked countless times for many here in this forum.
