Windows 7: newly installed win 7 - Unidentified network, no access

Hi I have just installed windows7 on my computer, i was using vista before. however this is a fresh install not an upgrade. After installation I downloaded google chrome and started browsing through google chrome.
and i realised all drivers are installed by windoes7 automatically but my sound card drivers were not installed. my computer is an old one i mean it is a fujitsu siemens computer which had win xp installed on it originally and was bought prob. 2 years ago. so sound card drivers also should have been installed by win 7 automatically.
But anyways i downloaded a software from internet called driverwhiz to install the missing driver itself as soon as i started to install the software it just went half way through installation my internet stopped working and network connection started showing as unidentified network no access. i tried uninstalling driverwhiz, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the onboard ethernet port, disabled pci modem card, tried widows 7 fixing the problem itself but all in vain. it just says unidentified network.
Can anybody help me with this please.

Try to use System Restore to go back to a point in time before you installed driver whiz. You shouldn't need it.

Then go to your sound card manufacturer's web site and try to find Windows 7 drivers for your particular sound card model.

Thanks ignatzatsonic, but it all happened in 10 minutes after installing win 7. so there is no restore point. ANY OTHER SOLUTION WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED. Thanks

If I didn't have a lot of time invested in the installation, I would start over. You can typically install Windows in under an hour. Probably less aggravation going that route.

yeah i thought about it but if i install another program and it happens again so i think a solution will be the best for the problem rather than avoiding the proble.

Do you assume that driver whiz is the cause of this?

I assume you "uninstalled" it through control panel/programs and features?

How about this:

download and install Revo Uninstaller

reinstall driver whiz, but don't run it.

use Revo to then immediatley uninstall driver whiz, using it's capability to dig into the registry and root out any last remnants.

Then try to reestablish networking through ordinary means.

I've used the "reinstall then immediately uninstall" thing to get around problems before and it worked.

But I'm stabbing in the dark. Who knows what registry changes may have been caused by driver whiz.

How does Device Manager look? Can you revert to older drivers there?

Device manager is fine, just showing multimedia driver need to be installed but rest is all ok as normal.
i will try revo uninstaller tonite and lets see if that solves it.
