    two internet connections at once

please help me. i've searched the forum but i cannot find any solution to my predicament. i also asked my friend google about this but he wasn't able to give me a proper answer. i hope the professionals here can.

so here's my situation: i have a USB Internet Connection and a WI-FI connection. i want to use both of them simultaneously. i know i can't stack their download and upload speed, but atleast i can download 2 files at the same time without having one internet connection doing all the burden. i think it's called load balancing or whatsoever. and it's built into windows 7? but whenever i try to connect the USB internet connection, my WI-FI suddenly goes "No internet connection". but it is still connected. a little help please?

Posting your email address in your system spec's is no help at all.

With 32 bit os, I don't believe what you want to do is possible.

oh myy.. that was very unintentional. i suspect google chrome autofill did that. sorry..

are you sure that 32 bit won't do it? i thought the only remarkable advantage of a 64bit is just the way it handles memory.. :|

Where do you want to connect?
What's at the other end of the USB?
Where do you want to connect via WI-FI?

If you have a separate IP address for both of them, it should work, but
you need to set a route for at least one of the cards.
    (command prompt "route add")

Then stuff to one "destination" (either network or a machine) is routed via one NIC and
the rest of the traffic via the other. If the connected address can be which ever - even
both NICs could address the same machine, it doesn't work without some specific SW.

The poor Windows wouldn't know which NIC to use for which transmission.

what do you mean by "What's at the other end of the USB?"

i want to use WI-FI for downloading. while the USB internet for web browsing. the USB internet is like a USB flash drive. only much bigger. it does not connect to anything. it's a plug-and-go internet connection. it has a sim card inside and uses HSDPA connection.

yes. it has a separate IP address. the wifi has 192.168.0.100 while the other one has 10.154.etc.etc.etc.

how do i exactly do this?

"you need to set a route for at least one of the cards.

I have heard of combining two connections to increase bandwidth, but that requires arrangements with your ISP, and is usually used with dialup connections, rather than cable or DSL. I can't remember what this type of connection is called at the moment, but it wasn't called load balancing as you mentioned. In any case, I believe that it would require two separate providers to accomplish anything like you want, and even if you have those, I'm not the one to help you with setting it up. I would tend to think that a faster connection with more bandwidth would be better than two slower ones though.

yeah.. but here in the philippines, internet connection cost is soooo expensive. a 1mbps connection is already 1200 pesos or $30 a month. the faster broadband/DSL plans are more expensive ofc. which is why, i stick to our 1mbps plan and a USB internet connection whenever i travel. and when i read about this load balancing thing, i got excited cause i really hope i can make use of my DSL and USB internet connection simultaneously whenever i'm at home.

I m not an expert in this at all....but if I remember correctly...load balancing is something that comes from the motherboard supporting for instance "dual Ethernet" ports right? I really don't think you can use a USB and WIFI for the same connection the way you are thinking....(but I maybe wrong!!!)

If it was that easy everyone would be doing it

you would need a router to manage the load balancing that will then output directly to your PC, how good are you with linux code ?
