Windows 7: Wireless Network Disconnecting

Wireless Network Disconnecting

Ok so my problem is pretty weird. After connecting to a wireless network after anywhere from 5 minutes to 60 minutes my ability to connect to the internet stops. The wireless connection still shows as full strength. This problem occurs at every place that I have been and used wireless. Which is at least 5 or 6 different locations with different routers and internet suppliers. This doesn't occur when using wired. If I run a ipconfig all the info looks good. If I do a ipconfig /release and then a /renew the internet access will come back but will disappear again after a small amount of time.

This has happened using the drivers that windows 7 provides, the drivers lenovo provides for vista, and the latest drivers that intel provides for vista.

To clarify what I mean by the internet stops this means that when this happens pings to google.com suddenly timeout. And web browsing stops working. But any connection that was made already for example a download will keep downloading or a mmorpg will continue to work.

My computer specs are in my signature and in my profile. If anyone can help me out here I would appreciate it.

I had exactly the same problem under Vista. It is definitely a new Windows 7/Vista networking thing. I don't know what fixed it, although I might suggest disabling IPv6 and running the standard Vista networking stability tweaks such as disabling auto-tuning:

[OC]ModShop - Solve File Copy Problems: Tweak Vista's auto-tuning Network

I no longer experience the problem. Usually to really fix it I had to reboot with the FIRST WLAN connection I connected to being the local one, and then it was fine... but when I went somewhere else I had to reboot as well.

This only happened since win 7? Was it a clean install? Do you have the correct intel wifi drivers?

Waitning on info

Hope this helps some

I can't be sure this only happens since windows 7. The laptop came with windows vista but I got rid of it after a day since it was so slow and all the tweaks I could find didn't help. Plus I wanted to mess with windows 7 :P. I did several fresh installs of windows 7 including the 7000 build and a few builds leading up to RC1. They all had the problem.

As mentioned in my original post I had tried multiple different drivers for the wireless card.

I will try the tuning thing mentioned above and let you know.

Rebooting for me doesn't seem to affect it anymore than the ipconfig refresh.

have you checked with lenovo? Maybe its a known problem for them. You could also google your comp and wireless problems. If it happens where ever you go its in the computer.

I have subscribed to this thread so every time its posted to Ill get an email so I will get coming back in

Hope this helps a little

I don't believe lenovo will help me since I am running windows 7 so I didn't try. I did do quite a bit of googleing but didn't find a solution that worked for me.

I understand its the computer. I'm glad we came to the same conclusion.

I would leave out that you are running win 7 though they should have drivers by now. Vista drivers should work but I kinda feel like it some sort of hardware problem like a funkiy wifi card.

Hope Im helping somewhat

I did the the tuning that ppp mentioned and the wireless seams a lot more stable. Its been about a week since i did it and I have noticed a big improvement. The problem doesn't seem to be gone completely but it happens so infrequent now that it isn't much of an issue. I appreciate the help and I will let you know if it comes back.
