On which parameters is the network profile based?

    Hi all,

Each time you connect (with a Win 7 pc) to a new network, your pc will ask you which profile to activate: Domain, Home or Public.
    I do understand this profiles.
But, which are the characteristics/parameters Windows is using? Is it based only on the IP address, or MAC, or gateway, or....
I was just imaging: I connect to a router at home with a standard private IP address. And I move to my neighbor, with the same brand of router and the same standard IP address. What will happen? Security???
Does anybody know what the parameters are?
    Kind regards!

    Hi all,

I finally found some more information. Reading this website Longhorn Network Location Awareness Service it seams that the NLA is responsible. Based on a lot of features (delivered by NLA),the systems decides whether or not it's connected to the same connection or not.
So for my example (in my question) it seems to be based on the Default Gateways MAC address...

    Thanks for reading this post!
