    Printserver Connection Issue

I have a Linksys printserver on my home network with 2 hard drives.

With my XP laptop I can connect to it easily. I just sign in at the prompt as either the administrator or a user with the appropriate PW.

I was also able to do this with my 2 desktops when they had XP on them. Now that I installed WIN7 Home Premium I can't access the printserver no matter how I try to access it. It seems to be a WIN7 security issue.

I have spent countless hours on this and I am trying to understand how Microsoft could build a product (WIN7) that does not work as well with a home network as WIN XP. It should work easier. I could write about 20 pages here with detail of all the stuff I have tried and the results but I won't bore you. It just seems that with each new release of Windows things don't really work better. Yes there are more bells and whistles added, but the basics don't function as well. Home networking should be easier not harder.

Also I really hate the home group approach to sharing files. With XP I could easily get to disks and files on each home computer. Now I have to go through the trouble of copying files to libraries. That stinks.

    Good News

I am now connected to the Printserver. In frustration I shut off the computer and later when I turned it back on I was now able to get to the 2 drives on the Printserver. Ditto this morning.

Now I have to figure out what of the many changes I made did the job but only took after I shut off the computer and turned it back on.

    This is crazy.

Next up figure out how to connect to the whole drive on another computer like I did in XP.

    Printserver not working with Win7

Please let us know if you figure out how you managed.
I have a D-Link printserver - worked fantastically on a couple of XP laptops. Now I have a new Win7 laptop - problems!
Try to print for the Win7 laptop - the lights blink on the printer, then nothing?
Although our printservers are not the same - your solution is "another" thing I'd like to try...
Does anyone else have a possible solution?
    The printer is HP 2600n
    The D-Link is a DP-G310.
Might be quite old - but still working perfectly - except on Win7...

    Print Server Connection

I got the connection to work by setting up a "credential" (see credentials in control panel) that pointed to the Print Server with a User ID and Password of an authorized user for the Print Server.

If you need more info or help let me know.
