Connectify personal wifi hotspot for win 7 this program connectify will give your second PC / tablet or any other wifi enabled device access to the internet through your pc. example: your router is downstairs and your pc is on the second floor you are up in the bedroom next to the room with your tablet/device, so you connect using the pc as a hotspot giving you better connection and speed. (its working great on my windows 7 64 bit pc.) With Connectify, users can wirelessly share any Internet connection: a cable modem, a cellular card, or even another Wi-Fi network. Other Wi-Fi enabled devices including laptops, smart phones, music players, and gaming systems can see and join your Connectify hotspot just like any other Wi-Fi access point and are kept safe and secure by password-protected WPA2 Encryption.

Sad. So much in Windows 7 lies just beneath the surface waiting to be discovered. Opportunistic charlatans write a simple GUI facade and claim that functionality for their own. This is a prime example. With a few simple console commands Windows 7 can do everything that this "connectify" thing can. Try this:
1) Start, type "cmd" and press ctrl+shift+enter. That will run an elevated command prompt and may trigger a User Account Control window.
2) Type "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<name> key=<password>" and press enter. Substitute <name> for the name of the access point you want to create and <password> as it's WPA2-Personal AES passphrase.
3) Type "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" and press enter.
4) Note that an access point named <name> as appeared on other wifi enabled devices nearby.
The same caveats as "connectify" apply: WPA2-Personal encryption using the AES cypher ONLY and you must use a WHQL-certified WiFi adapter and driver.
To disable the access point open an elevated command prompt as in step 1 above, type "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow" and press enter.

thanks for the reply on this i no windows seven has this function, in my opinion this program makes it that little bit easier for folk that don't no how to set up, or even no it exists as in lots and lots of programs that are developed using windows interface and other operating systems. they mostly are freeware so its not as if they are making money out of those that wish to use such programs to enlighten there pc and internet experience, i speak at my own college lectures on the progress and expansion of program developers for open source software which is highly excepted from all of the students on the progress of there studies. not everything in life has to have a price put on it to make it sociably acceptable. my lectures are also free. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number packard bell IXTREME M5722 OS Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 6.01.7600 SP1 (x64) CPU Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2500 MHz Motherboard Mainboard : Packard Bell (Acer EG43M ) Memory Physical Memory :8GB Corsair4x 2GB 800MHz C5 DDR2 Graphics Card Video Card : XFX 6700 AMD Monitor(s) Displays Maestro 234DL - BenQ V2220 - BenQ VW2420H Screen Resolution Current Display :1920x1080p pixels at 60 Hz in HD LED Keyboard Gigabyte Aivia K8100 Mouse TRUST-Wireless Laser Mouse - Carbon edition MI-7770C PSU XFX ProSeries 550W PSU Case PACKARD BELL IXTREME Cooling System Blower Current: 150mA Air Flow16CFM ;Akasa 90mm rear Hard Drives Hard Disks : WDC (1000 GB)

Those commands are well known and also can be looked up and copied from people like Paul Thurrott. This link even has pictures to show how to set this up properly using the command prompt. Windows 7 Tip of the Week: Use Wireless Hosted Networking to Share An Internet Connection Wirelessly
I agree brianzion, the connectify software just makes it easier. Most anything can be done using the command prompt but isn't that what software is for?
Software is something you use if you don't want to memorize or look up a bunch of silly commands in order to perform a simple task.
When the software is free and takes up just about zero space why on earth wouldn't you want to use it? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8 Pro, CPU Q9650-4.275GHz, E8600 4.5GHz, E6750-3.8GHz Motherboard Evga 780i FTW Memory G.Skill PC2 9600 1200Mhz 5 5 5 15 2T Graphics Card GTX480 Sound Card Asus Xonar D2 Monitor(s) Displays HannsG Screen Resolution 1680X1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU ThermalTake Toughpower 1000Watt modular Case ThermalTake XaserV Cooling Xigmatek S1283 Hard Drives GSkill Phoenix Pro 120GB SSD Internet Speed T1 |

Does it run on Windows Vista or Windows XP?
Sorry, not at this time. Connectify depends on improvements made in Windows 7 to operate. Frankly, Windows 7 is such a big improvement, that we suggest you're better off upgrading than waiting for us to get all this working on an older version of Windows. I'd rather not install something that wants to install drivers for something that needs none. This connectify thing tried to install two different drivers to perform a function that can be done with only those built into Windows. If this keeps bugging me I'll just write a .net front end that does what connectify does without the need for installation or to even remain present on the system unless you are setting up, tearing down or reconfiguring your access point. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number baarod/MCP OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit CPU Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.6GHz 9x400FSB Motherboard Gigabyte G33M-S2H Memory 4GB DDR2 1066 Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4670 Sound Card Integrated Azalia Monitor(s) Displays Acer AL1711 Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 4000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Lasr Mouse 5000 PSU 240W TFX Case InWin BT566 Cooling Intel Retail Stock Hard Drives OCZ Vertex SATAII w/ 1.5FW 30,528MB system and apps
