FCC to measure internet speeds

Got an e-mail from my ISP (Charter) in regards to an FCC plan to measure ISP performance. Information on the program and a signup form if you want to participate at the following link.

Already signed up and got a reply from them last year sometime. Now I'm just waiting to see if they selected me or not. Hopefully I will be.

They don't seem to be in any hurry though. LOL

I signed up today so maybe they need a certain amount from each ISP to get better results. It is suppose to run for 3 years so will will see.

I received an E-mail yesterday requesting a speed test. I send that in and today another E-mail with an acceptance reply. I have been accepted and they will be sending me a Netgear WNR3500L router in 7-14 days. It has wireless N and Gigabit ports. The router has built in testing software that looks for idle time and then performs various tests and I will get a monthly report on the results. Should be an interesting project.

How do I find out what my "Advertised connection speed" is? I'm with Time Warner (Brighthouse Networks) cable. This is required info to sign up for this.

That is the speed the ISP offers you when you select your service.
This is what my ISP advertises and I have the Express at 12Mbs

The whole purpose of the FCC measuring is to see if you are getting what you pay for.

Finally found it.

Road Runner Standard:
Up to 10 Mbps download
Up to 1 Mbps upload

So I just upgraded to

Road Runner Turbe
Up to 20 Mbps download
Up to 2 Mbps upload

for and extra $2.25 a month.

Now I can try registering for ther FCC thing which is what started all this.
