Yes some little adjustements are needed...unplug the usb cable after having set the software to let the wireless connection trigger the network through the computer.

i've found the printer takes time to trigger over the network, but once it does it will wirelessly connect each time you turn on you printer.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I have a combination internet modem/wireless router. I tried connecting my modem/router to the print server using an ethernet cable and then using the D-Link software clicked discover and then link and got the printer to work. So thats a good first step although the wireless connection is still dead. I have turned off my firewall so as not to complicate matters.

I have tried everything I can think of and my computer can't see the wireless print server. I must be missing something obvious.

I tried the set up a new network wizard and nothing showed up. I tried the instructions on e How.

With the router connected with the internet cable I typed in 192.168.10.13 which is the correct ip address according to the D-link software and I am asked for a password which according to the manual is user name admin and password blank. After that some software is installed for the web set up. Then after powering everything off I disconnect the ethernet cable and power everything up again to see if I can print wireless but the connection is dead.

Your advice would be appreciated.

You should access to the printer peripheral web page and change IP to 192.168.1.13, not the previous 192.168.10.13...then apply the new config.

I wish to thank everyone for their help and support.

In the end the solution was very simple but of course this information was not mentioned clearly in the manual. With the print server connected to the computer by Ethernet the D-Link software in web set up mode can be used to configure the printer port setup and also the wireless set up.

1- Run PS software click Discover/select print server/web set up tab. Type user name admin and password blank.

2- In the print server setup tab one is asked to run some software which configures the port. The firewall needs to be turned off for this to work.

3- In the wireless setup tab one has to click on a button in the window to scan for available networks. Then choose the network transmitted by your modem and simply enter the WEP password key which is the same one that is used to connect a laptop to the wireless network. Then the print server does a reboot to save the settings and its then possible to remove the ethernet cable and print wirelessly.

I went through a major nightmare a few weeks ago trying to do much the same thing with a D-link print server for a fried.

The problem was that their internal subnet was different than the printer default subnet. One network was 192.168.0.nnn, the other was 192.168.1.nnn.

The way I fixed it was the following:
1) Went into the router and changed the subnet to match the printer
2) Rebooted the PC to get a new IP address
3) NOW, able to connect to the print server (same subnet)
4) Changed the print server IP address to match the OTHER subnet
5) Went back into the router and changed the subnet back
6) Rebooted the PC -- now that both the PC and print server have the same subnet, able to find it OK

Hope you don't have to jump through all these hoops to get yours working.
