hello, i have a problem setting up a static ip on my computer, every time i try my computer crashes...
Somewhat shy of information. What exactly are you doing, and how are you doing it? Please be specific, thanks.
im sorry for the lack of information in the first post.
I want to make a static ip address on my computer so i can host a minecraft server.
to make the static ip i do as they say here:
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
but when i press the OK butten after wrighting the numbers the computer crashes.
What IP and DNS addresses are you trying to enter?
What info did you record from the output of ipconfig /all?
What do you mean by crashes? Does the computer hang, does it restart, does it blue screen, what?
Click on Start then Run and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as show, including double quotes:
cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"
and press ENTER.
A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.
i did what you asked, and this is what poped up:

This is a Desktop system, not a Laptop right?
It appears you are using USB Wireless device to connect to the internet (the wired connection is disconnected)? Is that also the one you are trying to set a static IP for? What is it's make and model number?
With this info, we can look for the latest driver for your USB wireless device.
Also, what is the make and model number of your computer? Better yet, fill out your system specs. Click on User CP at the top of the forum page and then Edit System Spec.
yes its a desktop i build myself.
Its late now so i will fill out the specs. tomorrow, and also find the model number for my wireless devise
i have filled out the specs. as good as i can :)
My wireless device came with my motherboard, and its a "ASRock WiFi-802,11g module"
Thanks for filling out the specs.
The ipconfig output you posted shows:That doesn't match what you said: ASRock WiFi-802,11g, but the ASRock support site agrees. There does not appear to be any Win 7 specific drivers so you must be using the Vista 32 bit drivers, right?Wireless LAN Card Wireless Network Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix. . . . . . :
Description. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11b / g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter
http://www.asrock.com/MB/download.as...0-WiFi&o=Vista
Try downloading and installing the ASRock driver again to see if that makes any difference.
I tryed to reinstall the driver from the link you posted, and now it works. now i can make a static ip without my computer chrashing
Thank you so much for your help Ztruker
