DHCP dynamic ip and static ip simultaneously, one nic ?

Is it possible to use DHCP dynamic ip and static ip in one nic at the same time ?

Like in xp via regedit ?

Is it disabled to use them simultanously in win7, one nic?

Google is full of "alternative config" suggestions, but they aren't what i'm looking for.
(since it is for the "if DHCP isn't available" situation)

Is there really a need for that?

Sorry about the long response time. I was just asking is there any real need for having two ips? If you are trying to use two separate networks you can always assign the info for both networks on the advanced page like you would do the the XP trick.

Yes, 2 seperate networks, same card. But when "obtain ip automaticly" is on, i can't add static ip's from advanced page. (add ip button is disabled, due DHCP in use)

So it leads back to my orginal question, is it possible like in XP or is that "trick" disabled in win7? :)

Starting to think, maybe it is just better to get that another nic.

Why dont you just set two static ips, and completely eliminate the need for dhcp?

As i work at home, removing DHCP is not an option.

I allready bought that another NIC for the other network.

It would be nice to find some official info, if microsoft has disabled that dhcp & static ip trick simultanously in newer windows versions for future reference.

Why is it not an option? In ip address is an ip address regardless of were it is obtained from is it not? All dhcp does is assighn the IP address, if you manually set the Ip address it bypasses the need for DHCP. You can set multiple gateways and multiple IPs under advanced options. So please tell me the factor I am missing here.

    Missing what?

As it is dynamic ip and i don't know what ip's are available from the DHCP at given time, so i can't use static ip for it. (or do you mean i would look up what ip i get from DHCP and change it to that manually ?, is that possible?) (and i don't have admin access to DHCP server.)

in my win XP installation, i had:

    1 network card:
Sharing my own network static ip and dynamic ip to workplace network, simultanously.

now that i bought that second nic, i have in win7:

    2 network cards:
1st. NIC getting dynamic DHCP ip from my workplace, to access corporate network.
2nd. NIC for my own network. static ip.

If you are using a gateway device on your network:
Contact your it department and ask them for a static ip 9 out of ten times they are not going to have all ip's accounted for (planning for expansion)
If you dial in from your pc:
Your automatically assigned an ip address on your dial-in interface which acts as a virtual nic.
