This probably isn't the problem but...
I had the same problem about 3 hours ago.I tried everything.
Searched around did reset of modem, used the Win troubleshooter for an hour. No valid IP address.

Then decided to check my firewall settings.
My Firewall was set to "Block all Internet traffic". I have no idea why.
Turned AV Internet block to off and everything started working.

Maybe something here:
invalid ip - Microsoft Answers

Quote:
Sometimes when your Windows computer fails to connect to a nearby wireless router, you'll see the error message Invalid IP Address.
One common cause of this problem is, by the way, is mismatched encryption (WEP or WPA) setting between the computer and the router.
I suggest that you reset the IP address and check.
1. Click Start.
2. Type cmd.exe in the Start Search.
3. Right click on command Prompt.
4. Click on “Run as Administrator”.
5. Type the following commands: ipconfig /release. Hit Enter.
6. Now type the: ipconfig /renew. Hit enter.
Now check if can connect to internet without any issues or not.

If its saying your default gateway cannot be found that has to do with your DHCP server (Normally your router) inst wanting to communicate with Windows properly.
