Security software configuration, firewall configuration, manufacturer bundled apps interfering, domain policy, etc etc etc. Compare the non-functional computer with a fully functional computer to see what is different.

Windows 7 64-bit professional

I think it's something about win 2008. Not only can I vpn+remote desktop into my box, I can do it to another Win 7 box and to a win 2003 server on the LAN. So what's the secret for the Win 2008 server? We can remote desktop to it with no problem from local boxes but not when we have VPN'd in.

I'm sure lots of these things are different between Win 2008 on the one hand and Win 2003 and Win 7 on the other. What I need is help in identifying what's keeping the Win2008 from accepting a logon from a box that is a VPN'd member of the LAN. Surely I'm not the only one ever to have to do this. I don't have "fully functional" Win 2008 to compare with.

Are there security, application or system logs that match the failed login attempts? It sounds like a remote desktop config on the server or the GPO the server resides in.
