Win7, lan problem, network cable unplugged.

I recently installed win7 ultimate , earlier i had xp. Now i am able to use wireless but not the LAN. I have checked in change adapter setting and its keeps saying network cable unplugged.
Windows 7 , 32bit
Intel r82562gt 10/100
Latest drivers installed
Cable is perfect
Laptop is HP550
procesor Intel core2duo t5270

In device manager i can see under network adapters two options and these are intel r825662gt 10/100 network connection and intel r wireless wifi link 4965ag

Please suggest me some way out as at my home i don't have wireless. I tries to include all the info which i thought would be necessary still if any reg do let me know.
If any driver need to install please tell the link.
thanks for reading

One end plugs into your computer. What does the other end plug into? If it plugs into a switch/router/modem is it plugged into the LAN or WAN port?

What sort of cable is it? A straight through cable or might it be a crossover cable?

If you don't have wireless, you may as well turn it off. It shouldn't cause a problem though

I know you said the cable is perfect, but have you tried a different cable?

If you have a look at the adapter properties is it set to full or half duplex or auto detect? You could try 100mb full duplex and see how that goes...

I get that, but that doesn't mean the adapter properties will be guaranteed to be the same. If it's only a 10/100 adatpter, it might be set to 1000mbps. Other settings in Windows 7 may be different to your XP set up.

Generally, if Windows say a cable is unplugged, then the problem is often a physical one - unplugged or damaged cable, or wrong type, though if you've proven the cable then that leaves us with drivers and configuration.

You said you have the latest drivers for your adapter installed. So, that leaves us with configurataion. Either that or a non-functioning port on whatever the cable plugs into.

Look at the device the cable plugs into. Is there an orange or green light on for that port? If there is, does the light go off when you unplug the cable?
