printing from Windows 7 to Windows XP server

I have recently had to replace a computer, so now I have a mixed Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP x86 network. I got both to print to my wireless laser printer just fine, and workgroup set up with printer and file sharing. The computers see each others shared files and printers. I temporarily plugged my Canon i860 into the Windows 7 Computer and got the driver via Windows update since my original CD did not work. The Canon i860 prints fine for either computer when plugged directly in. However, if I try to add the printer on Windows 7 when it is plugged into the XP computer, that computer sees it just fine but gives error message that printer driver is not found on print server. The same is true if the printer is plugger into the Windows 7computer and I try to add printer from XP computer. Clearly Windows 7 is looking for its driver on XP when the XP computer is functioniong as server and visa versa. How do I find the specific file for the Windows 7 driver so I can try loading it onto the Windows XP computer, or does anyone have any other ideas as to how to resolve this? Thanks

You do know that x64 and x86 have two different drivers....

You have to add the x64 drivers to the Windows x86 , well that is if you want computers to pull the drivers from that computer...

That is the error you are getting with the print server.

He said he "plugged my Canon i860 into the Windows 7 Computer and got the driver via Windows update" so that should not be a problem. Try this.

Open My Computer, Expand Network, expand the XP computer. Double click on the shared printer there. See if that works. I've had similar problems with Add Printer but this method has always worked.

2nd thoughts: Can you even install a X64 driver on a X86 system?

I haven't messed with the sharing of Windows XP in a very long time...

See if you can find something here:
