How do I get both Wired and Wireless Icons in System tray?

I have Windows 7 SP1, 32bit on my laptop. I have both wired connection, and wireless connection. It may not make much sense to have both active, but at times I do.

When I have both wired and wireless connected, why do I not have both the wired and wireless icons in the sys tray?

Is there any way to "turn on" these icons? In the taskbar properties notification area, I have "always show all icons" checked.

Is there anything else I can do?

There is only one network icon in Windows 7.

So, W7 only displays either the wired network icon, or the wireless network icon, but not both even if both are connected?

If that is the case, how can I tell which one W7 is using?

question: Since wired is a lot faster than wireless, why would you use 'both' or wireless at all?

Yes, I understand the point, and it is well taken.

I move my laptop around from place to place. I have automatic wireless connections set up, but some places I from time to time I can get a wired connection.

So, as you can see, on occasion, my laptop will automatically connect to a wireless network when I also have the opportunity to plug into a wired network.

W7 (at least my experience) will display the wireless icon, and not the wired icon when I am connected to both.

Yes win 7 likes the wireless icon better. I would suggest simply removing the "auto connect" from the connection properties if you don't like that icon

I too need this functionality. I have 2 ISPs. One is wired but slower 24 hr unlimited one. The other 4 times faster is wireless for unlimited use but only during 21:00 and 09:00 hours. I have both connections on during this latter period. I DO have my network setup to use both simultaneously. It would be nice to have both icons appearing in the system tray to display their status!
